Violence in Egypt escalated today as clashes between Egyptian security forces and supporters of former President Mohammad Morsi intensified. More than 200 people were killed, including 43 Egyptian police officers. The government declared a month-long state of emergency and there is a nighttime curfew in Cairo and other areas.
The violence also prompted the United States to review its aid policy with Egypt.
Erick Stakelbeck, author of “The Brotherhood: America’s Next Great Enemy,” and Michael Ghouse, president of the America Together Foundation, joined Hannity to discuss the latest developments.
Stakelbeck said democracy is not on the rise and in fact, this is the precipice of an “all-out civil war.”
He blamed the Muslim Brotherhood for the chaos, saying, “This is the granddaddy of them all when it comes to violent, modern Islamic terrorist groups.”
Sean Hannity called the U.S. government “stupid” for giving Egypt F-16s. He told Ghouse, “I predicted with pinpoint accuracy everything that was going to happen here, including the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood. You told me that I was wrong and I’m telling you that we would’ve been better off if Obama didn’t push out Mubarak.”
Ghouse maintained that he was right that the people of Egypt will “take back their freedom.” He said this turmoil is “part of the price they have to pay to earn the freedom. […] Egypt is going to have their own system of democracy and you will see a lot of good things happening.”
“I hope I’m wrong,” Hannity said. “I hope Mike’s right and I can come on the air one day and say Mike Ghouse was right. But I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
Hannity predicted that it will get worse and that the Muslim Brotherhood will spread to North Africa, Jordan and has already spread to Syria. “We’re going to look back on this period of human history as the rise of the radical Islamists and it is going to be bloody, it is going to be ugly and it is going to be mass destruction.”
Ghouse acknowledged that it will be bloody but he believes people will want their freedom back. “This is the decline of radical Islam from this day forward.”
