World Muslim Congress is a part of the Center for Pluralism.

I am pleased to submit the summary of what we do, also included in the summary below is the Muslim Segment of the Center.

We have defined Pluralism as ‘respecting the otherness of others.’

The programs at the center for pluralism are designed to bring Americans Together. The center is driven by the fact that the more often people see each other in social, cultural, civic, religious, political and other settings, the stronger the medicine would be against divisiveness, resulting in fewer misunderstandings and misperceptions between fellow Americans.

We are committed to forging a secure environment for all Americans, ultimately the safety of each one of us hinges on the safety of people around us.

MUSLIM SEGMENT OF CFP (There will be one for every faith)
In the Muslim segment of the CFP, we are committed to bring the changes among American Muslims in conjunction with www.WorldMuslimCongress.org  The role of Muslims is to mitigate conflicts and nurture goodwill and restore harmony and cohesion on an ongoing basis, that is what brings peace to humanity. Through our efforts we have brought several changes and will let you imagine the impact of these programs;

Big talk and dinner party conversations are good among Muslims, but they remain nothing but talk.  We have got to do things on the ground and bring the changes and have a rock solid record, so all of us can feel safe now and during our retirement and our grand children don’t have to face the prejudices that we have faced.

HOW DO WE BRING THE CHANGE TO MUSLIMS?

Muslims have done the right thing when asked. We have asked the Imams to share a few thoughts in the Juma Khutbas, and they have done it over the last 10 years.

The following events are designed to bring changes in how Muslims are perceived and the initiatives they take to build a secure America for every American. They are concrete programs:

 THE AMERICAN AMIN AWARD

JUMA KHUTBAS  

We visit different Mosques each Juma and at some mosques, we embarrassingly watch people get on their cell phone while the Imam is delivering the Sermon, a lot of the Khutbas are irrelevant – So, a few Imams have agreed to focus on putting together Khutbas that offer guidance to American Muslims in the light of Quran and practices of the Prophet, so we can be better citizens and get out of the Muslim shell and embrace the Aalameen. Islam is a faith for Aalameen and we need to do everything to uphold that.  Insha Allah, we will be launching this site in 2018.

SPEAKING ABOUT ISLAM – A NEW APPROACH

Lack of trained men and women to speak about Islam is the leading cause for people to misunderstand Islam. 63% of Evangelical Pastors do not believe Islam is a good religion. Usually, what is taught is five pillars of Islam and the rituals that go with it.  We talk about submission that goes over the head of many people, particularly the new generation.

What is needed is teaching the values of Islam that contribute towards building cohesive societies and creating harmony between fellow humans.  Islam has to be explained in its social, cultural and practical dimensions of a contributing religion towards betterment of society to earn respect for the faith and its followers.  We have to consciously avoid reducing Islam to beard and burqa and parroting Haram Halal.  When fellow humans see how Islam is committed to make the world a better place, we would have done our job.

Islam is about living an exemplary life of a citizen who is just, caring, trustworthy and around whom others feel safe. Islam is about living your life in peace and letting others live theirs in peace. Islam is about minding your own faith and letting others mind theirs.

SHARIA SYMPOSIUM

2nd Sharia Conference is in the planning at Capitol Hill, it is one of the most misunderstood items of Islam.  Unlike the common practice, just inviting Democrats won’t cut it; we have to develop inclusive societies however difficult that may be.  We are getting this sponsored by the Republicans and inviting Democrats as well as the clergy of all faiths including Evangelical pastors. DOES QUR’AN PROMOTE VIOLENCE? 

If you believe Quran teaches violence, this seminar is for you as it may release you from the anxieties that come with misinformation. This seminar is also for Muslims who are skeptical about Quran and need a healthy dose of confidence.

The purpose of this seminar is to facilitate fresh thinking and removing misunderstandings so we all can live in peace and not live in apprehensions. This event is not to promote Islam. Our policy at the Center for Pluralism is to treat all faiths equally and with full dignity and no faith will be given any preference.

DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WOMEN IN MOSQUES

We will focus on the subtle discrimination against women in Mosques and how to identify them and prevent them. Let the Mosque be a place of learning and a place of joy to be. Listen to the many experiences of women who have chosen not to go back to mosque and not fight with the misogyny.  This is an educational program with the intent of bringing positive changes.
6th CONVERSATION ON PLURALISM AND ISLAM
Muslims are struggling with the word Pluralism and most of the times they assume that it is against Quran and Islam, the truth is far from it. We have had five serious conversations on the topic.
If fellow Americans see that we are committed to respecting the otherness of others, then we will have fewer conflicts with them and live our lives securely without apprehensions.
The religion of Islam started out setting the new standards in creating harmony and coexistence among people of different traditions and religions. It acknowledges that each one of us is created to be unique with our own thumb print, eye print, DNA and even taste buds. The best ones among us, God in Quran tells us that are those who take the time to learn about each other. If we can learn to respect the otherness of others and accept the God given uniqueness of each one of us, then conflicts fade and solutions emerge.
It is just not Muslims but most people have misunderstood Pluralism; pluralism is the panacea to most of the problems we face. Muslims have an advantage in this field as it is supported by Quran and the prophet.

The first conversation was done at Urdu Ghar in Dallas, 2nd was done with Imam Zia Shaikh, 3rd one with Maulana Wahiduddin Ahmed live on Facebook on an interfaith show, 4th one  at Maulana Azad University’s Islamic Studies class,  and the 5th one was at Capitol Hill in Washington with Dr. Farooq Hassan. I am hoping the 6th conversation to be to take place with Imam Magid of Adams Center or Imam Talib Shariff of Masjid Muhammad, and we are working on doing this in the Bay Area and Chicago.

HOLOCAUST AND GENOCIDES

The 13th annual reflections on Holocaust and Genocides will be held on 1/28/18 Sunday 12-4 PM – Our main anchor event will remain Holocaust and we will be highlighting the plight of Rohingya people and what we can do to prevent evil occurrences. UNITY DAY USA

The 14th annual Unity Day USA will be held on September 11, 2018.The idea for Unity Day USA was first conceived on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 and took its current form on Sunday, September 11, 2005. It is an initiative for Americans to come together to stand up for the safety, security and cohesiveness of America.

On this Unity Day, we the people of the United States of America of every faith, race, ethnicity, culture and background will gather to express our commitment to co-existence, unity, prosperity and well being of our nation.

THANKSGIVING CELEBRATIONS

20th Annual event will be held in November 2018. The purpose of celebrating this event is to thank the creator for helping us learn; to give thanks for the blessed life we all enjoy in these United States of America; to celebrate the diversity of creation; to enjoy the cultural heritage of each ethnic group that makes America; to appreciate and recognize outstanding volunteers in each community; to gather together as Immigrant Americans with born Americans; to bring the new immigrants into our fold and to accept, respect and appreciate each other’s uniqueness.

MY DREAM

All good things in society happen with some one’s dream and execution of the same. Here is my dream which is becoming a reality, that one day we will wake up to an America, where no American lives in apprehension, discomfort or fear of the other. It would be a prophetic realization of the vision of our founding fathers, “That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.” And that dream was refreshed by Martin Luther King, Jr. Please join us in achieving that dream for each one of us.
