NEW DELHI – All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), the umbrella body of Muslim organisations in India, on Monday condemned the “barbaric attack” by Israeli armed forces on the Palestinian worshippers inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the occupied territories of Palestine.
The brutal force used by the Israeli occupation forces is against all norms of international law, said Mushawarat President Navaid Hamid said in a statement.
Hamid’s reaction came as renewed attack by Israeli security forces on Palestinian protesters left dozens injured on Monday. Images relayed by local media showed security officers using flash grenades against protesters, with Palestinians responding by throwing rocks. The Red Crescent reported multiple injuries, with at least 50 sent to hospital, after the fighting at the Al Aqsa Mosque.
This was the second show of brutality by Israeli forces in as many days. On May 7, about 300 Palestinians and 20 police officers sustained injuries.
“The brutal force used by the occupying army on innocent civilians, women and children is a heinous crime against humanity. The human rights violations perpetrated by the Israeli forces should be thoroughly investigated, guilty be tried in the International Criminal Court and must be punished,” Hamid said.
The Mushawarat president also condemned “illegal forced eviction” of Palestinians from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah area of Arab east Jerusalem.
Recognising the Palestinians’ struggle against the occupation, Hamid said, “we stand firmly in solidarity with the colonised unarmed Palestinians who have been facing unparallel injustice and sufferings at the hands of occupiers in the history of mankind.”
Recent Israeli aggression against the Palestinians has drawn world-wide condemnation. Following May 7 brutal attacks, prominent Muslim organisations in India slamed Israel.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind called on the Indian government as well as the United Nations, World Muslim League and European Union to intervene and work to end repeated Israeli aggression against the Palestinians and Al-Aqsa.
